Reading habits tag

Hi everyone, just me again, with another tag! Anna did this tag a bit back and I really wanted to do it too! Check out her post and I hope you enjoy my answers!

Bookmarks or a random piece of paper

It’s usually a pen because I like to underline so I just stick it in the book when I’ done

Stop reading randomly or stop after a chapter/certain amount of pages

I hate stopping mid-chapter, however, some have those like pauses in chapters and I sometimes will stop there if I’m falling asleep or have to leave

spongebob-reading-book-animation

Certain place at home for reading?

My bed, however, my position always changes because THERE IS NO READING POSITION THAT IS COMFORTABLE FOR LONGER THAN 5 MINUTES

Eat or drink while reading?

Neither

tumblr_o2aedh5bGD1ue7me3o3_500

Music or TV while reading?

Absolute silence usually but sometimes a bit of jazz music, depending on what I’m reading

One book at a time or several?

1 omg or else I get plots mixed up

belle-reading-gif

Reading at home or everywhere?

Home usually but I can read on planes and busses

Reading out loud or silently?

Silently… sometimes I read aloud when I’m really tired or when there are no quotation marks… I’ll make different voices for each character so I know what the hell is going on

Do you ever read ahead or skip pages?

ABSOLUTELY NOT

tumblr_inline_n24v9uPlLG1qct4us

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

Breaking the spine tbh. Everyone gets angry about it but it’s my book so get off my ass

Do you write in your books?

I like to underline quotes and circle words I don’t know so yeah

There weren’t any rules for this so if you want to take a swing at this tag, be my guest, if not, that’s cool too!

Until tomorrow

Tarte Cosmetics review

Howdy everyone, hope everyone is doing well. Over winter break I bought a few Tarte products and thought I would review them. I did another tarte review a while back and a lot of people seemed to enjoy it, so why not make another one.

Tarte always has the best sales (which is when I buy from them usually)  randomly so whenever they do I grab what I can. For this haul, I got the be happy. be bright. be you. set, the 3-in-1 frxxxtion stick exfoliating cleanser, and the no makeup magic beauty essentials.

While this is all I ordered, I also received the Swamp Queen eye and cheek palette by mistake. This actually happened to be the last thing I purchased from tarte as I got it for my sister for Christmas, so now we both have one! Now, onto the review!

be happy. be bright. be you.

Okay, for this one, If I’m being honest the main reason I bought this one was for the bag. It’s super cute and I LOVE the “be happy be bright be you” quote on it. Now, just because I loved the bag, doesn’t mean that I don’t also love the products it came with.

Highlighter duo- I’ve always been a girl that likes to glow. However, I’ve never tried cream or liquid highlighters so both of these sides were a first for me. I was SHOCKED by how pigmented these both were (liquid was more so) and a little went a LONG way. I’ve been wearing the liquid on my cheeks and the cream on my nose and upper lip (it’s easier to keep it in a small area) and I am in love!

Lippie duo Everyone knows there’s not been a lipstick I’ll turn down and these are no exceptions. I’m not much of a lipgloss person but I’ve been putting the gloss over the lipstick and it looks super cute (in my opinion haha). They’re both nude colors which I love (especially in Ohio because I can look put together and nice without people being like “why do you have so much makeup on”).

Blush- I’m not really going to review the blush because I’m not a blush person. My cheeks are rosy enough I don’t need them to stick out any more than they already do

Ready. Set. Radiant. Setting Spray- I never realized how important setting spray is until you use it and your makeup still looks good after 10 hours. It smells amazing (kind of like wood and citrus and mint) and keeps you looking good all day.

Sweet Tarte perfume- I’m not usually a gal who likes sweet and girly scents (I’m more of a natural perfume wearer) but this smells so good! I wouldn’t say it smells like sweet tarts the candy but it does smell fruity just good???

3-in-1 frxxxtion stick exfoliating cleanser- I reviewed this one in my last review but it was so good that I got it again! I have very sensitive skin so I don’t exfoliate a lot to keep my skin healthy and not dry but when I do, I use this! It’s sort of on the small side so if you exfoliate a lot I might not get this but if you do it more sparingly like me, this is for you! After I use this, my skin isn’t dry, itchy, or red AND it’s so soft! This is by far my fave skincare product they have 🙂

No makeup magic beauty essentials

This was another set that consisted of the brighter days highlighting moisturizer, and a lip quench. I really wanted to try the moisturizer to see if it would work well with my skin but didn’t want to spend a bunch of money on the full size one in case it irritated my skin or I just hated it.

Brighter days moisturizer– I love this. Once I finish buying books (kill me) I’m going to definitely grab this in the full-size option. It’s got little glitters in it which is what adds the highlighting aspect and it leaves you (me anyway) moisturized WITHOUT BEING SHINY which is so hard for me to find.

Lip Quench- this ended up being very moisturizing I just wish it wasn’t as tinted. The color is nice (sort of an orange-brown) however, I would’ve liked a more muted color or to be able to pick the color that came with the set.

Swamp Queen eye and cheek palette- As I mentioned before, I got this palette for my sister for Christmas. First of all, this smells heavenly. Most eyeshadow palettes smell like eyeshadow. Nothing special This palette smells like birthday cake or frosting and honestly, I’d buy it just for that! As for colors, I really like them all and the contour and highlight colors are good for my skin tone, but not for many others, which stinks for those of you who aren’t super fair skinned.

I’m always wanting to get better at makeup and I can’t wait to get experimenting with this palette!!

All in all, I loved all of these tarte products!

What’s one change you can make to increase your happiness?

I think one change I can make to increase my happiness is working out more. I’ve always loved working out,  I love pushing and improving myself during each workout. However, I get really bad anxiety about going to the gym (I have bad social anxiety already paired with the fact that I don’t really like people watching me work out) so I don’t go too often. I’ll get dressed, fill up my water bottle, even get a jacket on, and I’ll psych myself out so much that I don’t go. When I’m at home, this doesn’t affect me because I shoo everyone upstairs for an hour or so so I can do what I have to do, but at school that’s another story.

I want to start trying to go to the gym at a time that a lot of people aren’t there to help with that, but with the new year and new resolutions, the gym has been packed pretty much 24/7. I’m going to try to do some workouts at home because I have a yoga mat, weights, and resistance bands in my room, so once I know my roommate’s schedule, I’ll get cracking on that.

If any of you have any home workout ideas that you could give me, that would be much appreciated as well!

P.S. My blog got a bit of a revamp so I hope you all enjoy it, because I do!

31 days of self-love challenge: Day 17

When was the last time you indulged yourself and how?

I think the last time I indulged myself was the week before this semester started. I know that self-care and love aren’t just face masks and bath bombs but boy do they help! And over the course of 1 or 2 days these are just what I did. For Christmas every year I usually get a few bath bombs or a Lush gift card and this year I got both. Lush never sells out on all of their Christmas products so the days following Christmas, they usually have huge sales for up to 50% off of everything Christmas related. So, naturally I raid the store and have tons of fun products to use and since they’re natural, I have to use most of them pretty quickly.

During my little treat myself endeavor, I made myself some pancakes (chocolate chip of course), did a face mask, and then took a bath and used some of the products from my little Lush haul. It’s something I love doing and if I only do it once every 3-6 months then I’ll indulge all I want. 🙂

31 days of self-love challenge: Day 16

What is the most loving thing you’ve ever done for yourself?

I think the most loving thing I have ever done for myself is probably either dropping a bad friend or just giving myself a break.

My junior year of high school and a few other occasions  I’ve discovered some of my friends were not people I wanted in my life and over time I was able to drop them. Dropping negative people isn’t a hard thing to do anymore, however, in high school.. it was. Being constantly around the same people for 40 or so hours a week along with extracurriculars and being in the same friend groups… it’s hard. However… with perseverance, grit, and some very well crafted notes (looking back on this it was so childish… but whatever works I guess) some very negative people were out of my life.

I remarked yesterday or the day before that I used to be all go go go constantly and that really drained me. I think something that was very loving was realizing that I physically couldn’t do so many things and needed to reevaluate and choose to do what I loved AND had the time for.

What have you guys done that is loving for yourselves?

31 days of self-love challenge: Day 15

What are you afraid to ask for? What do you need to speak up about?

Something I’m always afraid to ask for is help. Whether it’s for directions, school, or otherwise I hate asking for help. I always feel like I can do everything myself and while that’s a great thing to believe, it’s just not practical. I’m one of those people who constantly take on new projects, always wanting to help others until I physically can’t put anything else on my plate. I don’t like letting others down, so I’ll skimp out on homework or studying for an exam to get everything I promised done. Ever since being in Ohio, I’m trying to do less. I get to focus on school and myself a whole lot more while still helping others as best I can. It’s hard not being go go go like I have been in the past but it’s always nice to just stop and relax every once in a while.

Something I need to speak up about is probably when others hurt (not physically) me. I can be a bit of a pushover when it comes to certain people and certain topics and I end up letting people walk all over me. This actually happened yesterday (haha typical) and I always get frustrated with the outcome of these situations even though it’s really my fault that the outcome happened. I need to be able to say no and let others know how I feel because there’s a huge chance that some of them don’t know they’re taking advantage of me.

What do you all need to speak up about and ask for?

31 days of self-love challenge: Day 14

What would your younger self be proud of you for today?

This one has been by far the hardest prompt for me to do, or even think about. I don’t like thinking about my younger self often because she was constantly bullied, had bad friends (some good, but a lot of bad), a lot of mental issues, a bad body-image, and a very dreary outlook on life.

All throughout middle school (but the end of elementary and early high school) my life sort of sucked. All of this pent up negativity in my life led me to be a very mean person, who hated everyone.

So, I think my younger self would be proud of me cutting the bad people out of my life, even if it took a couple years to do it. She would be proud of me for standing up for myself and not letting people walk all over me. She would be proud of me for seeking help for numerous things I was too afraid to do so for in the past.

My younger self would be proud of me for a lot of things, however, I think the thing she would be the proudest of for is for taking care of myself and putting myself first. I  work my hardest to be myself and be proud of it and for (almost) always loving who I am. Being kind to myself, body and mind had been a constant struggle for me for years and I’m getting better at it day by day. I am nicer to myself (and others) now and it is something I strive to improve upon each and every day moving forward

Blogger Recognition Award

Good afternoon everyone, I am officially all settled back into my dorm, with updated planners, calendars, and clothes put away. I am now just relaxing despite all of the reunions occurring outside of my room (after 7 hours of driving I need a break and a nap) so I figured I would do this blog award I was nominated for a few days back.

First of all, thanks so much to Alys for nominating me. I highly recommend checking out her blog, it’s one of my faves!!!!

Rules:

  1. Show your gratitude to the person who nominated you and provide a link back to the person’s blog.
  2. Give a brief story of your blog.
  3. Share two or more pieces of advice for beginner bloggers.
  4. Choose 10 other bloggers to nominate.
  5. Comment on each blog by letting them know they’ve been nominated and provide a link to your award post.

Story of my blog:

I have been blogging since I was 14. I stumbled upon someone’s summer bucket list blog and I decided that I wanted to make one as well. So, that summer and the summer after, my friend Molly and I made a summer bucket list blog. We are no longer friends, however, I wanted to continue blogging so I have made a few blogs over my lifetime to continue blogging, mainly just random writings and a bit of food tracking. However, in October of 2015, I decided that I wanted to document my time in college  (I also had no friends so I wanted to make some virtual ones 🙂 )so that’s how I started this blog.

Advice:

  1. Write about what you want- This one may seem pretty self-explanatory, however, it may not be. With so many lifestyle blogs about fashion and the latest hair hack, you may seem pressured to post about these. Yes, it may get you some traffic but if you don’t necessarily like what you’re posting… why blog? I will post a review here and there because I want to and I think other people might want to see it. I post things for me because I like them, not to get a certain amount of views in a day and I recommend you all do the same.
  2. Don’t stress- I’m all about trying to be consistent, it’s what readers like and it gets views. However, if I’m sick or had a long day or was out with friends, I’m not going to worry about my blog. Blogging can wait, your life can’t. I blog during downtime, on plane rides, in bed, etc. I make sure I love my life how I want to and make sure that blogging comes second. Make sure you do that as well.

I nominate:

Happy Mentality          Lu          Shannon          Sam          Anjana

Kaitlyn          Nicole            Ashley          Jamie          Courtney

Take a selfie. Just as you are. Find one thing to love about it

If I’m being honest, there are many things about this photo I could critique. From my tired eyes to my slept in hair, to my flushed red skin. However, upon first glance at this photo, the only thing I saw was my smile. My usual fake meh smile was replaced with a genuinely happy smile, that only comes around once in a blue moon.

I got back to school today, and after the treacherous 7-hour drive, a trip to Walmart, and unloading the car, I was alone, tired, and had so much work to do, yet I was still smiling. I’m smiling because even after 4 hours of sleep, eating garbage food all day, and sitting for 7 hours, I’m in one of my favorite places on the planet and nothing can put a damper on that.

31 days of self-love challenge: Day 11

How would you describe yourself in a loving way to a stranger?

Hmm, this is a tough one for me. I never liked describing myself, looks or personality for anyone… but here it goes. As loving as it gets for me at the moment

On the outside, I’m that awkward height that’s not short but not tall. It’s not a bad height, pretty decent. I’ve got blonde-ish hair that is at least 4 different shades and is pretty long and gets almost white in the summer. I have a bunch of different dimples that are visible depending on the face I’m making. They’re one of my favorite parts of my face. My eyes are a cool blue-grey color, but change to grey, blue, and blue-green, depending on my shirt color and the lighting. I always think its cool how they change colors.  I have 4 tattoos and, yes there are more to come and yes I love all of them.

On the inside, I’m typically a very kind individual, but I can have an attitude, but who doesn’t sometimes?. My sense of humor is 100% sarcasm and there is a 27599% chance that I’m usually kidding. I’m a very goofy human who loves making other people laugh. I also love doing things to help better the world, like volunteering, helping those in need, and I want to be a teacher so I obviously want to better the generations ahead.

31 days of self-love challenge: Day 10

How can you set better boundaries in your life?

I’ve never been one to set boundaries well, in fear of backing down on them or hurting others but a friend of mine and I recently had a conversation about boundary setting so I’ll post her tips for this one.

  1. When you identify the need to set a boundary, do it clearly, calmly, and in as few words as possible. Do not justify, apologize for, or rationalize the boundary you are setting. Just set the boundary calmly, firmly, clearly, and respectfully.
  2. After setting your boundaries, you are in no way responsible for how others react to the said boundary. Do not back down on it just to make others happy.
  3. If you feel selfish or guilty about your new boundary, that’s okay. Keep strong with your boundaries.
  4. Most people are willing to respect your boundaries, but some are not. Be prepared for this and never back down.
  5. Setting boundaries can and will take time. Be patient
  6. Develop a support system of those who support your boundaries and keep them close.

How do you all set boundaries in your lives??

31 days of self-love challenge: Day 9

What’s something in your life that you need to get rid of?

Something I NEED  to get rid of (but is SO SO SO hard to do) is negativity. I feel like everyone has quite a bit of negativity accompanying them, due to stress, our government, work, etc. However, I feel like mine is a bit more internal.

I want to be one of those girls who is filled with sunshine and rainbows, but instead, I’m filled with self-deprecating humor and past trauma.

It’s so hard, especially when it comes to loving myself, body and mind, not to be negative. However, I’m not actively trying to remove it from my life. I’ll sometimes just be like “haha I have no friends,” “why am I ugly” or “I’m a failure.”

I really want to try to live a more positive life but I really don’t know what to do or how to start. How do you guys try to maintain positive and keep the negativity in your lives at a low?

Until tomorrow

Alicia

31 days of self-love challenge: Day 8

Where in your life do you need to slow down & take your time?

I think my whole self at school needs to slow down. I am constantly go go go, going to events, class, the gym, work, doing homework, and making time to be social can be a lot. I sometimes forget to relax.

In San Diego, I relaxed too much, so my grades suffered so I made it a mission that when I came to Ohio I wouldn’t let the same thing happen. In all of this studying and making friends and everything else, I forgot to take my time and slow down a bit. This entire semester I watched maybe 30 hours of Netflix. I know this seems trivial, but I watched at least 5 times that in San Diego.

This semester, my goal is to create a balance. I need a balance of school, work, social, and downtime. I always seem to have 1 or 2 of the three, but never all of them and I’m really going to try to create a balance of them all, no matter how long it takes.

31 days of self-love challenge: Day 7

Name a thing you love about your body and your personality

This one also proved very hard for me to come up with. Something I love about my personality is my sense of humor. I am very sarcastic which can be taken wrong but it usually works in my favor. My sense of humor has always been a way for me to make friends/ make small talk or first conversations less awkward. People also always remark on my sense of humor and that they think I’m funny so it’s nice that others appreciate something that I love as well!

Something I love about my body is my hair. It’s soft and long and like 7 different colors which makes it look super cool when braided. I know that I sometimes complain about how it doesn’t hold a curl and how it’s so straight but at the end of the day, I’d take straight soft hair over a bunch of tangles and frizz.

What do you all love about yourselves??

Alicia
